L-theanine and ashwagandha are quite complimentary in terms of their benefits, but the mechanisms of action are quite different. Ashwagandha works more on a hormonal level, especially with cortisol. L-theanine works more on the neurotransmitters.

The study concluded:
“Stress-related symptom (i.e., depression, anxiety-trait, and sleep) scores decreased and cognitive function (i.e., verbal fluency and executive function) scores improved after four weeks of L-theanine administration.”

Currently there are no scientific studies that combine only ashwagandha and l-theanine against a placebo. This does not mean, however, that we can’t deduce anything from the combination, we just need to be cautious when we try to make a clear claim with the combination. Ashwagandha dose:

For pharmaceutical grade l-theanine, a good dose is 250 mg per day. Some people take anywhere from 50 mg up to even 400 mg per day. It can be safely combined with ashwagandha.
